In early August 1906, 13 Master Masons, believing the time opportune, conceived the idea of forming a Masonic Lodge in the then sparsely settled suburb of the city of Los Angeles known as Highland Park. The first degree was conferred on the 13th day of the month, and the numerals given the Lodge, 382, total 13. Notwithstanding that the traditional unlucky "No. 13" appeared frequently, the members ignored the so-called hoodoo and worked with the No. 13 as a mascot. Built in 1922, the building was home to the Masonic Temple until 1981 when the lodge moved to a new site on North Broadway in Lincoln Heights.
